Mushrooms of the North American Pacific

Mycologia Pacifica is an attempt at a k-means cluster analysis of a few prominent types of mushrooms along the Pacific coast of the United States and southwestern Canada. I leaned heavily into dot stippling for a more artistic representation of the land and sea, and used a few 5(ish) mile buffers around the land masses to produce a “wavelike” effect in the water.

I think the mushroom icons for each cluster got a bit lost in the final design, so I may revisit this because I did end up liking the blues, yellows, and reds that show up in the terrain. However, the “antique” map style may be a bit too heavy-handed. Keep an eye out for a version 2!
