TOADSTOOLS is a fun exploration of 3D space, using Blender alongside aggregated density and species diversity data to let mushrooms “grow” out of a map. Mushroom color and height are modified in 3D space to represent diversity and density, respectively.
Mushroom data was gathered from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and aggregated to a hexagonal grid (40-mile maximal diameter).
Software used: ArcGIS Pro, Blender, Adobe InDesign
Map created by Mike Huff and Ryan Huff, April 2026.
